Selective School Application in Victoria
The selective school application process opens once a year through the Victorian Government portal. It’s open to current Year 7 students going for Year 9 entry at one of Victoria’s four selective entry high schools: Melbourne High School, Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School, Nossal High School, and Suzanne Cory High School.
The application itself doesn’t take long to fill out, but getting an offer is a different story. Selective entry is competitive across the state, and the result comes down to how your child performs on the entrance exam, which covers reading, mathematics, and general ability. Most families who come to us start preparing around 12 months out.
About the Selective School Application Process
Applications go through the Victorian Government’s online portal and usually open in Term 1 or Term 2 each year. Once an application is submitted, shortlisted students are invited to sit the entrance exam, typically held mid-year in Melbourne.

Victoria's Selective Entry High Schools
All four schools use the same entrance exam and accept students for Year 9 entry:
- Melbourne High School (boys only), South Yarra
- The Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School (girls only), Melbourne
- Nossal High School (all genders), Berwick
- Suzanne Cory High School (all genders), Werribee

Applications for entry into a Selective Entry High School in 2023 are open. To apply, complete the online application form.
The examination is scheduled for 23 July 2022 at the Melbourne Showgrounds.

About selective entry high schools
Victorian Selective Entry High Schools provide for academically high-achieving students in years 9 to 12.
These schools are:
- Melbourne High School (boys only) in South Yarra.
- The Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School (girls only) in Melbourne.
- Nossal High School (all genders) in Berwick.
- Suzanne Cory High School (all genders) in Werribee.
