Every stage of school brings new challenges. Our Accelerated Learning Class (ALC) helps students strengthen their knowledge, practise applying what they learn and develop the confidence to approach new ideas.

Reading & writing
Reading is at the heart of strong English skills. Through wide and purposeful reading, students rapidly expand their vocabulary, strengthen comprehension and learn to recognise the logical connections between ideas. They then apply this knowledge to develop clearer, richer and better-structured writing.
Mathematics & problem solving
Problem solving is central to mathematics throughout primary school. Students need both sound mathematical foundations and the English language skills to understand a question, identify relevant information and explain their reasoning. Our learning activities bring these skills together to help students tackle worded problems with confidence.
Reasoning & regular practice
A distinctive part of Top Scope’s program, numerical and verbal reasoning develops students’ ability to recognise patterns, interpret information and think logically. We regard these skills as essential preparation for scholarship, SEAL and other accelerated programs, and selective school entrance pathways. Regular practice also broadens students’ knowledge and helps them apply their thinking beyond familiar classroom tasks.

Essential English
Develop reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, writing conventions and text crafting through a rich variety of texts. Students progress from literal comprehension to reorganising information and drawing inferences, with a strong focus on interpretation. They develop evaluative and critical reading skills for text response and analysis, then apply these insights to creative writing.
Advanced Mathematics
Learning ahead gives students time to build understanding before encountering new concepts at school. Our program combines strong mathematical foundations with a step-by-step approach to worded problems: interpret the question, identify the relevant information, choose a strategy, show clear working and check the solution.
Science
Study science systematically, building connections between key concepts as knowledge develops. Experiments help students connect theory with observation, deepen their understanding and reinforce their recall of what they learn. Learning resources include Jacaranda Science Quest for Years 7–10.

What is the Accelerated Learning Class?
ALC is Top Scope College’s learning program for Years 1–10, designed to strengthen subject knowledge, reasoning and independent learning skills.
Which subjects does ALC cover?
Primary learning resources cover reading comprehension, written expression, mathematics, problem solving, and numerical and verbal reasoning. Secondary resources cover English, mathematics and science. Contact us to discuss the appropriate program for your child’s year level.
How large are the classes?
Our group classes generally have fewer than 15 students. Please confirm the arrangements for your child’s class with your chosen campus.
Is ALC the same as scholarship or selective school exam preparation?
ALC focuses on ongoing learning and subject development. Top Scope also offers dedicated scholarship and selective school preparation programs. We can help you discuss which pathway suits your child’s goals.
