Mathematics VCE Unit 1-4
The Top Scope College’s VCE Mathematics course is an accelerated program focused on developing the students’:
- Logical and critical thinking necessary for complex problem solving.
- In depth calculator training (CAS or Casio).
- Effective work habits and ethics.
- Intuitive understanding of mathematical concepts as opposed to memorizing formulas.
We provide:
- Large library of trial exams for revision and consolidation of learnt content.
- Revision lectures for both unit 1&2 and 3&4.
- Weekly application material and notes to support your learning.
- Weekly small group tutorial sessions allowing you to learn at your own pace.
The VCE mathematics curriculum is divided into 3 subjects, each having a different learning focus:
Further Mathematics:
There are two core and two selective modules. The core modules, which are compulsory for all students taking further mathematics include:
- Data Analysis
- Recursion and Financial Modelling
Two more selective modules are to be completed on top of the core modules. These modules include:
- Graphs and relations
- Networks and decision mathematics
- Geometry and Measurement
- Matrices
Each of the selective modules will comprise 20 percent of the course mark.
Mathematics Methods:
Methods explores the application of the following key concepts:
- Functions
- Trigonometry
- Algebra
- Calculus
- Probability
- Statistics
Maths Methods differs from Further Maths in its application of more abstract and theoretical concepts, such as algebra and calculus.
Specialist Mathematics:
Specialist Maths is designed to extend the students’ skills further by taking them beyond concepts taught in Maths Methods, exploring all of Methods’ concepts in greater detail and with the addition of new ones.
The key concepts include:
- Rational and quotient functions
- Complex numbers
- Calculus
- Vectors
- Differential equations
- Mechanics
- Statistical inference
Study of Specialist Mathematics assumes concurrent study or previous completion of Mathematical Methods Units 3 and 4.
