Language A: Literature Course
The Top Scope College IB Literature course is focused on helping students to prepare by developing all the core skills required for success in IB Literature.
Students work with their prescribed school texts to prepare for each assessment and extra resources are provided according to individual needs.
The course develops:
- A student’s creative, analytical expression and interpretation skills.
- An awareness of literary devices, vocabulary and metalanguage, and how to apply these effectively.
- An enhanced understanding of implied meanings, purposes, styles, structures of texts and forms of writing.
- The ability to make sound and critical judgments about a variety of text types and authorial choices.
- The ability to write effectively and coherently for each text type.
We provide:
- Course material which covers each area of IB Literature in line with International Baccalaureate requirements.
- A library of reading and supplementary materials to help generate ideas and develop nuanced literary perspectives.
- Essay marking and review by teachers experienced in teaching IB Literature.
- Weekly small group tutorial sessions allowing you to learn at your own pace, and ask tailored questions based on your needs.
- Professional and past students’ high scoring essays to refer to when practicing your writing.
The IB Literature course focuses on:
- External Assessment, Paper 1- Guided literary analysis– The paper consists of two passages from two different literary forms, each accompanied by a question. Students choose one passage and write an analysis of it.
- External Assessment, Paper 2- Comparative essay (not assessed in 2021 due to Covid-19)- The paper consists of four general questions. In response to one question, students write a comparative essay based on two works studied in the course.
- Internal Assessment- Individual oral– an oral presentation which examines the ways in which the global issue of choice is presented through the content and form of two of the works that have been studied.
Chemistry
The Top Scope IB Chemistry course focuses on helping students at both SL and HL:
- Tackle explanation and problem-based questions
- Build students’ exam technique, subject skills and self-confidence by getting extensive practice with a wide range of IB Chemistry Trial papers and exam style questions
- Develop a range of inquiry skills involving research and analytical skills including critical and creative thinking, and communication skill
- Communicate clearly and accurately an understanding of the disciplines using appropriate terminology, conventions and formats
We provide:
- Large library of trial exams for revision and consolidation of learnt content.
- Revision lectures for all SL and HL content, including options material.
- Weekly application material and notes to support your learning.
- Weekly small group tutorial sessions allowing you to learn at your own pace.
Physics
The Top Scope IB Physics course focuses on helping students at both an SL and HL level:
- Tackle explanation and problem-based questions
- Build students exam technique, subject skills and self-confidence by getting extensive practice with a wide range of IB Physics Trial papers and exam style questions

The Top Scope College’s IB Mathematics course is focused on developing the students’:
- Logical and critical thinking necessary for complex problem solving

- Effective work habits and ethics
- Intuitive understanding of mathematical concepts as opposed to memorizing formulas

The IB Mathematics curriculum is divided into 2 streams: Maths Analysis & Approaches (AA) and Maths Applications & Interpretations (AI). Students in both streams learning the same core topics:
- Number and algebra
- Functions
- Geometry and trigonometry
- Statistics and probability
- Calculus
However, each stream has a different learning focus:
Maths Analysis & Approaches (AA):
- Focused on developing a deeper abstract and theoretical understanding of mathematical concepts
- Less emphasis on the use of technology in solving problems
Maths Applications & Interpretations (AI):
- Centred around the real-life application of mathematics in solving practical problems
- Emphasises the use of technology in solving problems
