To all our 2021 SST8 Students

Dear all SST8 students:

Congratulations on finally reaching the end of the course, and subsequently, your Selective School Test.

Having taught most of you from the start of SST8, I could not be more proud of how far you have all come. Whether you were in SST8 for just a few months or over a year, you have persisted to such an amazing degree - despite multiple delays, lockdowns, and for many, the transition into high school.

Regardless of how you go in the test this week, just remember how much you have achieved - over sixty writing pieces, dozens of tests and topics completed, and a growth mindset. Even in times when you felt discouraged, seeing you give it your best shot is something that all of us at TSC are proud of.

Thank you as well to parents, for encouraging your children to do the best they can and supporting them through this journey - especially the tech support, picking up books, and printing of tests during lockdown! Any unmarked writing pieces from last week will be sent out to you soon.

It has been a privilege to teach all of you, so hopefully I will see you again at Top Scope College. I wish each of you nothing but the best with all your goals and aspirations.

And a couple of things to remember, as I had to mention them during the Simulation Test:

1.) Attempt EVERY question - don't leave any blanks. A ¼ chance is higher than nothing. If one text or question is too hard, skip it and go to something else. Prioritise texts with the most marks (for RC).

2.) Follow the test rules carefully. If it says not to write on the booklet, follow it. Make sure you are doing your working out on the correct sheet!

3.) Avoid drawing or scribbling on any of the sheets, especially if it’s an answer sheet to be scanned and marked by a computer. (If only you could see the amount of times we had to manually erase / edit your answer sheets so they would actually go through the software….)

4.) Write all details, ID and fill all bubbles correctly. This relates to the above point.

5.) Follow and read provided instructions. There will be many specific things about mobile phones, distancing, breaks, masks, timing and drop-off due to COVID-19. It is so important to follow those protocols so you aren't late or lost.

As the Dr Seuss quote goes:

"You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.

You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.

Wherever you fly, you'll be best of the best.

Wherever you go, you will top all the rest!

...

You're off to Great Places!

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting.

So...get on your way!"

Best of luck,

Ms. K. Wright
